Mangroves

Arakan State, for approximately two decades mangroves have become unhealthy or completely destroyed due to prawn farming, natural disasters and the use of the wood for such things as brick manufacturing.

Prawn Farming

Arakan State, approximately 84% of the mangrove forests are gone in Burma due to lumber exportation, many subsistence projects posed by the SPDC and shrimp farming. It is believed that shrimp farming is responsible for the majority of the destruction to-date.
